HOME STUDY & POST PLACEMENT SERVICES
Many people think of a home study as an intrusive, judgmental, and annoying hoop to jump through—a necessary evil in the process of adopting a child. We want to change that.
A home study should not be something that happens TO you, but something that happens WITH you and FOR you.
A home study is made up of four parts: education and training, collecting documents, meetings with an adoption clinician, and a written home study report. The goal is to help you prepare for the joys and the challenges of adoptive parenthood. The focus is on learning and sharing of thoughts, feelings, reactions, and ideas. The report is a document that describes what makes you YOU, what you bring to the table as adoptive parents. We review your past experiences and your present day life to help you identify potential issues. While a small part of the home study does assess a family’s readiness for adoption, 90 percent of the home study process is about preparation, education, and determining the best fit between your family and an adopted child.
Alliance for Children has a thriving home study and post-placement program. It is designed for families who live in a state where we are licensed to conduct home studies and their placement agency is not. We are proud of the partnerships and relationships we have built with other agencies and work well with them to help make your adoption goals become a reality.
When adoptive applicants use our home study and post-placement services, it allows them to consider adopting from a wider range of countries, programs and resources and provides them with the best of both worlds: an experienced, local agency to conduct their home study and a placing agency with expertise in the type of adoption they want to pursue.
